Dan Evans

Dan Evans is a New York based writer and painter. He has written eight plays based on literary and historical figures produced at Metropolitan Playhouse, New York. His play “The Beggers' Report” was performed at the Clemente Solo Velez Theater with a cast that included Thomas Lanigan Schmidt, Edgardo Vega Yunqué, Agosto Machado, and LuLu LoLo. Published works include “Dialogues from the Ascent” (Backyard Press) a comic and metaphysical depiction of the life of St. Francis of Assisi; “The Traveler I Have Spoken To” (Backyard Press) a book of poetry based on the writings and life of Henry Thoreau; and “The Wedding Gift” a short story published in The New Yorker. A prolific writer, Dan has written a five-volume science fiction series: “Defenders of the Landmark”; a series of four novels written in unprecedented dialogue format: “The Dialogues Anthology”; a sprawling novel written in seven different traditional literary styles “Akrim the Numerous”; a murder mystery series featuring female private eye Bijou Marquee; “Sisters of the Sea, a swashbuckling musical of women pirates; assorted screenplays; and three books of poetry: "Death, My Brother” (based on the life and paintings of Vincent Van Gogh), "Passing Through”, and “The Pier and the Ocean". An essay “The Saint Necessity Baal vs. Galileo”, was published in The Antioch Review. He has also written on art and the history of East Harlem.

Dan's paintings include a series based on the life of St. Francis of Assisi, with an exhibition “The Poor Man of God” on the 800th anniversary of his birth and "Shot Selections" a collection of large black and white canvases depicting scenes from classic film noir movies. He created the Crabapple Chapel, East Harlem. Dan was born and raised in Elko, Nevada, but considers himself a New Yorker and a Parisian in his heart. He is the assistant to playwright/actor/ performance artist LuLu LoLo.
